El Nevado Del Tolima is a stratovolcano, located on the south side of Los Nevados National Natural Park. The last major eruption took place about 3,600 years ago, and only minor eruptions have been recorded in the 19th and 20th centuries, the last occurred in 1943. At an altitude of 5,215m.s. It is the third highest volcano in Colombia. We are going to pass through an impressive landscape of páramo, one of the most beautiful and important ecosystems of the Andes, known for its water production; and with its peculiar location which is above the Andean forest line and below the permanent snow line. It is truly something magical and surprising that only those who visit it can fully experience it.
Day 1: We start the journey with a delicious typical breakfast from Salento at 6:20 in the morning; we are going to take the traditional transpor tation that is going to take us to the beginning of this amazing adventure in the Cocora Valley. We start the trek part in the mountains of our great territory, walking 18kilometers approximately, ending the day in the farm in which we are going to have some rest.
Day 2: We are going to do an acclimatized short trekking in the paramo near to the farms.
Day 3: We are going to have breakfast and start the trek at 3am in the morning crossing the National Park Los Nevados, reaching the Summit of the glacier at 5.215m.s.n.m. This is 20 kilometers away.
Day 4: We start with a nice breakfast to recover energies to start the descending part to Salento and finish our experience.
